This Technical Brief is the seventh in a series that addresses financial sector challenges and opportunities in Southeast Europe and Eurasia, specifically the twelve Beneficiary countries of USAID’s Partners for Financial Stability program. The Technical Brief highlights the important role that insurance products can play in expanding credit availability to micro, small and medium enterprises, small farm holders, and other disadvantaged groups.

The Brief explains the special importance of macroprudential supervision for preventing the next financial crisis - and maintaining access to finance - in the target region and outlines recent progress and challenges.

Yerevan, Armenia – On April 23, the USAID-funded Partners for Financial Stability (PFS) project marked the successful completion of activities in Armenia. The USAID PFS was a three-year regional program (2010-2013) with the goal of addressing the recent global financial crisis and enhancing financial sector stability and growth in 12 partner countries in the Europe and Eurasia region, including Armenia.

USAID's Partners for Financial Stability (PFS) program is entering the final stage of its financial sector development activities in the countries of emerging Europe and Eurasia. To celebrate PFS successes, USAID and Deloitte Consulting are organizing a Farewell Reception in Hotel Westin in Zagreb. This event will gather partners, beneficiaries, and friends of PFS without whom the program would not have been able to make an impact.

The EBRD offers five one-week workshops during the year. Each workshop is sponsored by an EBRD Banking Department Sector or Country team. That team is responsible for choosing the topics to be covered and inviting the participants, who are clients or potential clients of the Bank. The workshops are designed to assist senior leaders within enterprises, financial institutions, and public utilities to develop their management know-how and skills.
